Waymarked Paths

There are seven signposted and waymarked paths in and around Ballater.  Each starts and ends at Station Square, in the heart of the village.

Riverside Walk

A pleasant circular walk through the village and along the banks of the River Dee.

Craigendarroch Summit

A circular route taking in the top of Craigendarroch (‘rocky hill of the oaks’) with its views to Lochnagar and the village below.

Craigendarroch Circular

A circular route contouring round Craigendarroch (‘rocky hill of the oaks’) beneath a canopy of ancient oaks, Scots pine, and birch.

Mackenzie Memorial Walk

A short loop through woodland, passing old curling and skating ponds and a memorial to Sir Allan Mackenzie.

Pannanich Woods Circular

A circuit through woodland, returning on a pavement along the South Deeside Road.

Seven Bridges Walk

Follow this circular walk in either direction to enjoy woodland, river and mountain views, and the old railway line to Bridge of Gairn. West of Bridge of Gairn there are two options: the High Route takes an off-road path running parallel to the A93 while the ‘By the river’ route follows the banks of the Gairn and the Dee.

Cambus o’ May Circular

Followed clockwise, this route takes you along the Deeside Way and across the Dee on the historic Cambus o’ May Bridge before returning through attractive woodland on the opposite riverbank.
