Riverside Walk

This is a low level circular route sandwiched between the banks of the River Dee and Ballater Golf Club with wonderful mountain views.

Mostly wide earthy paths with some sections of narrow rough and rocky paths, one section of steep uneven path.

Route

  1. Starting in Station Square, head west along the main road (Braemar Road, A93) for 300m, then turn left (south) into Invercauld Road at the fingerpost in front of the Auld Kirk hotel.

  2. In 150m take the first turning on the right (fingerpost) into Dundarroch Road.

  3. Continue straight along Dundarroch Road which narrows to a footpath before joining Old Line Road after about 300m.

  4. Continue straight on (west) along Old Line Road for about 200m and when the road (now a track) splits at a fingerpost (with the Seven Bridges Walk veering right), veer left and continue down to a small car-park with picnic tables.

  5. From the car-park, walk towards the river and turn left along the path that follows its bank downstream.

  6. After following the riverside path for almost 2km you will reach Ballater Caravan Park. Turn left up the track beside the caravan park to reach Salisbury Road.

  7. Take the second right off Salisbury Road (at a fingerpost) into Deebank Road, and follow it to the end (almost 400m), where it meets Bridge Street.

  8. Turn left into Bridge Street (Ballater’s main street) and continue along it for about 350m to reach your starting point at Station Square.
