Mar Lodge Estate offers a wide range of outdoor activities and pursuits, including ranger-led walks, early bird safaris and archery, as well as traditional field sports, such as stag stalking, grouse shooting and salmon fishing. Glen Tanar Estate
Since its very beginnings, Glen Tanar has been inviting people to enjoy the great outdoors amidst 25,000 acres of beautiful Highland scenery. Michael and Claire continue this tradition today, welcoming visitors to their luxury holiday cottages, prestigious event venues and award-winning outdoor activities, in a special place that includes a National Nature Reserve and part of the spectacular Cairngorms National Park. The estate works in close partnership with Scottish Natural Heritage, Forestry Commission Scotland and the Cairngorms National Park. Michael and Claire place great emphasis on conservation and responsible land management on this internationally important site. Theirs is a culture of gradually investing, of constantly improving, of adapting sensitively to changing times. In this way, they aim to balance the needs of a growing business with those of a rural community and unique natural environment.
Glen Tanar Estate came into the Coats family in 1905, when George Coats, great grandson of the founder of the fine thread manufacturer, J&P Coats, bought the land from the Manchester MP and merchant banker, Sir William Cunliffe Brooks. The current owners, Michael and Claire Bruce, have lived in the Glen since 1986 and raised their three children there. They are the fourth generation of the Coats family to own and care for the Estate.
